2010 SPORTS DAY REPORT

The 54th Annual Sports Day and Dinner was held on Thursday 28 October 2010 at Killara Golf Club.  Both bowlers and golfers took to their respective greens with lots of enthusiasm and camaraderie for the afternoon ahead.

We had 92 golfers playing this year and there was a great combination of old boys, current and past parents and friends.  There were two families of three generations represented on the day with the Brownhill’s (David, Gordon and Hugh) and the Watson’s (Ian, David and Angus) and there were a total of fourteen combinations of fathers and sons too.

There were 12 bowlers playing this year and it great to see them back again after not playing in 2009.

At 7pm everyone sat down to dinner and we were warmly welcomed by Tony Bulmer (OBU President and MC for the evening). There were a number of special guests including Dr Tim Wright (Headmaster), Grant (former Headmaster) and 10 senior staff members who amongst their duties are Masters in Charge of sporting areas at School. Rev Nick Foord said Grace and Hugh Brownhill (2008) toasted the School.  During the meal presentations were made to the winners of both bowls and golf (listed below).

Our guest speaker for the evening, Hon John Howard AC, spoke in his address about his new book, Lazarus Rising, and kept us entertained with stories from all different aspects of his life.  He took many questions from the floor and to round off this part of the evening he participated in ’60 Seconds with John Howard’ where he gave one word answers to subjects raised by Tony Bulmer including - Being Australia’s longest serving PM?, The Labour Party?, Living in Kirribilli House? and Parenthood?

Killara Golf Club were great hosts and we thank them for the day as well as all attendees and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
