The 2011 Old Boys Union Queensland luncheon was held on Wednesday 24 May at Brisbane’s United Service Club.   Hosted by Queensland Convener Tony Ritchie (63), 36 Old Boys enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of catching up and reminiscing of days at Shore and what they had been up to over the past 12 months.

Amongst the elder statesman were Maurice Underwood (35), Brian Fitzpatrick (45), John Michelmore (45), Alleyne Withey (46), Richard Lynch (47) and John Robson (48) while Hugh Innes (94), Brett Roper (94) Simon Cudmore (86) and Tim Caro (83) represented the younger generations

The School’s Deputy Headmaster, Graham Robertson, represented the Headmaster Dr Tim Wright as Guest Speaker.  Graham  gave an enlightening speech on the success of the School both academically and on the sporting field over the past year as well as providing an update in proceedings on the future development of the Graythwaite Estate.

Rick Clive (68) represented the OBU and gave a speech on recent OBU activities, recent changes and updates to the OBU Website and of Old Boys who had been in the news of late.

John Playfair (72) was supported by Peter Hickson, Josh Kirk, Roger Masters  and John Powell from the Alumni of 72 who all responded to John’s contact.  Tony Ritchie thanked John for his contribution in organising his fellow class mates to attend.

Tony Ritchie once again was a great host and with his closing speech thanked all for coming.  He said with the support of some of the younger Old Boys in attendance the numbers for the 2012 lunch were certain to increase.  He also thanked both Tanya Hill and Rick Clive for their assistance in making the afternoon such a pleasant occasion.

To end the afternoon Maurice Underwood presented to Graham Roberston two books which he has donated to the School Library.  The books ‘Mates and Memories’ and ‘Medicos and Memories ‘ tell the story of mateship amongst Australians from the 2/10 Regiment as prisoners of the Japanese during the Second World War.   Graham in accepting the books on behalf of the School thanked Maurice and said that both the Headmaster and the School Librarian would be delighted with his generosity.
