The ACT/Southern Region Shore Old Boys Dinner was held in Canberra on Friday 4 November 2011 and was a most enjoyable evening.
This year, there were 40 Old Boys present plus a further 24 wives and partners of Old Boys and we received 35 official apologies.
We were delighted to welcome some special guests from the School for our dinner, including the Headmaster, Dr Tim Wright and his wife Sue; the President of the Shore OBU, Mr Tony Bulmer [80] and Tanya Hill, from the OBU Secretariat.
Tony began the evening with an overview of the activities and new initiatives of the OBU. After dinner, Mr Tim Gavel [77], the ABC’s sports commentator, gave us an entertaining and amusing talk on the influence of his time at Shore on his life. Tim then proposed a toast to the School.
The Headmaster responded with an informative and insightful address into the many facets of life at Shore and its future directions. As well he brought with him, and had on display, the plans for Graythwaite that all attendees were able to view after the formal part of the evening.
We had a great cross section of Old Boys coming to the dinner from Ray Macourt [43] through to William Blanch [09], who also led us with the Grace before dinner.
Once again, many thanks to those who attended and to those who sent their apologies. I would be keen to receive any comments that you may have about this function and/ or possible future functions and locations from all of you in the ACT/ Southern Region group via my email address (jelawson@bigpond.com)
