ACT & Southern Region Reunion
Fifty four Old Boys gathered at The Commonwealth Club, Canberra on Friday 17 September 2010 to attend the first reunion of Old Boys living in the district in eight years. Convened by John Lawson (61) ably assisted by host Club member Russell Deane (56) the evening was a great success with some staying well into the early hours of the next morning.
John Lawson welcomed all and in doing so extended a warm welcome to Guests, Deputy Headmaster Graham Robertson, OBU President Tony Bulmer, OBU Community Relations Manager Rick Clive and Executive Director of the Shore Foundation Peter Murphy.
A highlight of the evening was seeing Richard Lawson (91), James Tonkin (90), Andrew Lawson (88), and Daryl Schmidt (87), mixing with the elder statesman, Daryl Blaxland (43), Frank Taplin (44), Peter Trenerry (44), Philip Peters (46) and John Sutton (46).
Several speeches were made on the night with Graham giving a detailed speech on the School as it is today, as well as expanding on recent academic and sporting achievements by the boys of the School. Graham also handled a number of questions from the floor, many surrounding the recent purchase of Graythwaite and what it might be used for.
Tony Bulmer gave a summary of recent OBU activities, expanded on the revamped OBU website and gave mention to the On-Line Careers and Peter Murphy spoke on Foundation activities, while those in attendance were shown a DVD which was shown at the recent All Sports Lunch held in Sydney.
To complete the evening Rick Clive gave a vote of thanks to both John and Russell for contribution in organising the evening and presented them both with an Old Boys Tie as a memento of the occasion. A similar night is being planned for 2011.
