1960 Reunion
The 1960 Alumni held their 50 Year Reunion last Saturday 31 July 2010 and the Conveners for the event were Peter Murray, Tim Holden and David Cay.
Forty three old boys from the year attended, which was held in the Prep K-2 Hall at the Northbridge Campus. The day started early for some, with 16 assembling outside the Travers Centre in the Main Drive Way for an inspection tour of the School at 10:15am. The tour which included inspections of the School Library, Archives, Centennial Building and Graythwaite was led by the Headmaster Dr Wright and Roger Corbett, Chairman of the School Council. The Graythwaite tour was a highlight and allowed Roger the opportunity to advise all from his year about the recent purchase of the estate. The Headmaster and the Chairman of the School Council were ably assisted by the School Archivist Welwyn Petersen and the OBU Community Relations Manager Rick Clive.
Following the tour, those who attended made their way to Northbridge where they were joined by their former School mates for pre lunch drinks, before sitting down to a scrumptious two course lunch at 12.30pm.
Peter Murray welcomed all and introduced Rick Clive as MC for the day. Tim Holden gave the apologies while David Cay said grace.
As MC, Rick Clive gave a summary of the year of 1960, while Roger Corbett gave a powerful Toast to the School. The Headmaster gave an insight into the School as it is today, while David Cay gave a wonderful anecdotal tribute to PRM Jenkins who had been invited as a guest but was sadly an apology on the day due to illness.
At the conclusion of the lunch, attendees made their way to the Grandstand, where reserved seats were waiting for them. There they watched a thoroughly entertaining match between the 1st XV’s of Shore and Scots, the match ending in a thrilling 15 all draw. Matched evenly, Shore managed a 20 metre push over try by lock-forward Mac Rae on the bell and a marvellous pressure kick conversion by five-eight Harry Cleaver from 12 metres in from touch as the referee blew full-time.
A great end to a great day and everyone went home knowing that they had experienced a very enjoyable day.
