Christmas Lunch 2011

Some 120 members of the Mitre Club attended the Annual Mitre Club Christmas Lunch in the Emery Room at Northbridge on Tuesday 13 December 2011.   Persistent rain over the past two weeks did not dampen the enthusiasm of those who attended with pre-lunch drinks being enjoyed on ‘A’ Ground under cloudy but at times sunny skies.

The Convener Andy Warden gave a warm welcome to all, particularly singling out both Arthur Dreverman (34) and John Rorke (34) as the elder statesmen of the gathering.  The School’s longest serving Master Peter Jenkins (39) was also on their table.

Thirty Seven members of the 1956 Alumni used the event as an opportunity to celebrate their 55 year reunion. (The names of those from the year who attended are detailed at the bottom of the report).

Several Mitre Club members made the long trek from Interstate as did many from NSW Country regions.

Guest of the Mitre Club was the Headmaster Dr Tim Wright who must have had an inkling that the results of the HSC due for release the next day would be good, as he had a smile on his face that showed that he must have had a bit of inside information.

Dr Wright spoke on the success of the School over the past 12 months, the plans for the development of Graythwaite in 2012 and the commencement of Stage 2 of the Northbridge re-development project.

MC Rick Clive closed the afternoon by advising that the Mitre Club would hold its Legends Lunch at the School on Friday 4 May 2012.  The lunch would honour the School’s 20 Old Boys and Three Masters who had competed at the Olympic level for their country.
